Favorite Essential Oils for Summer Use

Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint essential oil is one of the favorite essential oils for summer due to its cooling properties.

  • Combine peppermint with distilled water or witch hazel and toss it in your beach bag.
  • Peppermint hydrosol is great as a refreshing body and room mist that will help make your body feel cooler. Think of peppermint as your natural fan.
  • Mix peppermint with coconut oil as a natural pain reliever for sore muscles.
  • Use it outdoors to repel insects.
  • Combine 2 drops of each essential oil (peppermint, orange, lemon & bergamot) to create a summer happy blend for your diffuser, air freshener sprays or even wax melts.
  • Make a homemade peppermint foot scrub that removes dry skin from your feet effortlessly. Mix 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1/4 cup baking soda, 1/4 cup apricot carrier oil and 10 drops peppermint essential oil in a 6 oz glass jar.  Spend more time enjoying the great weather of summer and less time in the nail salon.

Lime Essential Oil

Using lime essential oil for summer can create a special summer fragrance in your home and even outdoors during a summer party. 

  • Add a few drops to a jar of liquid coconut oil to create a refreshing tropical setting.
  • Lime is another essential oil that can be used as a insect repellent and even for a headache*, apply it topically mixed with a carrier oil
  • Add lime to a spray bottle of water and use as a summer household cleaner. 
  • Make a “Mojito” blend with 2 drops of each essential oil (lime, grapefruit, tangerine & spearmint) for use in diffuser or create a water bead diffuser.

Pink Grapefruit Essential Oil

  • Apply pink grapefruit essential mixed with a carrier oil to sore muscles, sore joints, wounds, scrapes, cuts. Grapefruit essential oil has natural anti-inflammatory benefits. 
  • Use grapefruit as a natural cleanser in your beauty routine, simply mix a few drops of grapefruit oil with coconut oil.  Along with warm water this oil is an effective way to remove makeup.
  • Add grapefruit essential oil to your shampoo or body wash treat oily hair and skin.
  • Add 2 drops of each essential oil to your diffuser (grapefruit, lavender & orange) for enchanting summer evening with that special someone.

Spearmint Essential Oil

The fresh, clean aroma of spearmint essential oil is valued for its invigorating and refreshing qualities makes it a great addition to your essential oils for summer. 

  • Spearmint has natural antiseptic properties which make it great for soothing wounds and scratches from hiking or just outdoor activities. Apply it topically after diluting in your favorite carrier oil (maximum skin use level is 1.7%)This oil contains fewer amounts of menthol and is not tough on the skin compared to peppermint.
  • Mix spearmint with water in a spray bottle and spray it outdoors to repel pesky insects.
  • Enjoy a burst of summertime with 1 drop of spearmint, and 3 drops each of lime and orange.  Try it in your diffuser or other applications you enjoy.

Lemon Essential Oil

  • Lemon essential oil is wonderful for summer cleaning.  Add a few drops to a spray bottle filled with water and use it for wiping down tables, counter tops, cutting boards and appliances.
  • Lemon essential oil also acts as a natural pest repellent, works great to keep away fruit flies and other bugs when you’re cutting fresh fruits and veggies for the family picnic.
  • Add a few drops of lemon essential oil to a jar of liquid coconut oil and place it on a table to keep pests away and give the area a lovely smell.
  • Let’s make a lemonade scent with essential oils just add 2 drops of each essential oil to your diffuser, water bead diffuser or spray bottle (lemon, spearmint & basil).

Orange Essential Oil

  • Orange essential oil is another citrus oil that acts as an insect repellent and can be used both indoors and outdoors to combat insects and spread a sweet, refreshing and pleasant aroma.
  • Orange adds play, generosity, creativity and abundance into life. Helps those who are workaholics and need help to start enjoying a summer vacation.
  • Get out the diffuser and bring the island life to the backyard or even inside with 3 drops orange, 2 drops each of ginger and ylang ylang.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil

  • Eucalyptus essential oil serves as a natural insect repellant.
  • Eucalyptus oil contains a natural antiseptic that can be used on bug bite, sores, cuts, and burns. It’s antimicrobial properties work to prevent the growth of new germs. Apply two to three drops on a clean cotton ball and rub the area of concern twice daily.
  • As a sports rub for sore muscles, eucalyptus blends with ginger and rosemary.
  • Eucalyptus is great for sunburn relief. Fill a two-ounce spray bottle with purified water, 2 to 4 drops of eucalyptus oil and one teaspoon of pure aloe vera gel. Shake well and spray on skin for relief.

Bergamot Essential Oil

  • Bergamot essential oil can be used as a natural cleaner, a sweet scented disinfectant for summer cleaning.
  • Relieve sores by using a hot compress with 2 drops of bergamot, and 4 drops of tea tree.
  • Add 10 drops to unscented body care to help for a luxurious experience after spending time in the sun.
  • Create a beachy ambiance by diffusing  2 drops of each essential oil (bergamot, tangerine & spearmint).

Tangerine Essential Oil

  • Tangerine essential oil with its warm, citrus, sweet and tangy aroma has a slightly hypnotic effect on the mind helping you get in the summer/vacation mood.
  • Tangerine is helpful to forget about work stress and tension due to its soothing action on the nervous system.* 
  • Need a great energy boost? Add three to four drops of tangerinelemongrass and spearmint to a diffuser and inhale often.

Lavender Essential Oil

  • Lavender essential oil is a calming soother and wonderful for any summer-weary skin application. Blend with aloe vera gel or extract for a winning skin care combination. Make this soothing spray for use at the end of a day in the sun 1 cup distilled water, 3/4 cup aloe vera gel,10 drops lavender, 10 drops peppermint essential oil in large glass spray bottle (refrigerate when not in use to provide instant cooling & soothing.
  • To alleviate aching swelling from a sprain, use 4 drops lavender essential oil and 2 drops of yarrow in a cold compress.
  • To soothe burns, sunburn, or eczema, apply a blend of lavender, Roman chamomile, and spearmint to the affected area.
  • Love key lime pie? Diffuse 1 drop lavender, 4 drops lime, 1 drop each of lemon & vanilla.
