DIY Essential Oil Flea Collar for Your Pet

DIY Essential Oil Flea Collar for Your PetFlea prevention means toxic chemicals that can be harmful to your best friend. Fortunately, DIY essential oil flea collar for your pet is not only inexpensive to make, but it really works!

For our DIY essential oil flea collar using essential oils, we chose lavender, lemongrass, and peppermint essential oils for our blend thanks to their flea and tick repellant qualities.

Read more below to learn why we picked these particular oils.

Lavender
This all-purpose insect repellent has done well in studies as a tick and flea deterrent, as well as preventing tick eggs from hatching.* Ohio State University actually recommends lavender for flea control!

Lemongrass
Lemongrass has a pleasing, exhilarating citrus scent. It’s a great natural flea repellent, and the related species of citronella grass may also repel fleas.*

Peppermint
Peppermint is an oil that insects stay away from! Be sure to use only one drop of peppermint oil in your DIY essential oil flea collar for your pet, as it’s a cooling oil that can irritate your pet’s skin if overused.*

DIY Essential Oil Flea Collar for Your Pet

Ingredients

2 drops lavender
1 drop lemongrass
1 drop peppermint
1 tbs your choice of carrier oil
Bandana

Directions

Mix all of the oils together, then fold bandana into a collar. Put the oil mixture inside of the collar carefully, then tie around the neck of your pet. Voila! Your pet now has his own homemade flea collar.

You can also rub some of this blend on the outside of your pet’s normal collar (not on the inside!).

Warning: Dogs and cats are sensitive to essential oils like babies are. It’s very important to dilute oils well, and to make sure that they don’t have too much contact with skin/fur.*
