Essential Oil Dandruff Relief

Essential Oil Dandruff Relief

Essential Oil Dandruff ReliefIt seems like many people are increasingly turning to safe, tried and tested home remedies. Hence, if you have dandruff, using essential oils for dandruff relief is especially noteworthy.

Almost all store-bought anti-dandruff products have adverse side-effects. Additionally, many find that they never completely get rid of their dandruff. Therefore, it becomes a cycle of trying different products and exposing yourself to many potentially harmful chemicals.

First of all, essential oil dandruff relief won’t cure dandruff overnight. However, it can be very effective.* It’s recommended that you attempt to find the cause(s) of dandruff first. Then you can implement lifestyle changes along with essential oil dandruff relief.

Causes of Dandruff

  • Skin irritation
  • Over- and under-washing hair
  • Psoriasis or eczema
  • Yeast/fungus
  • Diet and hydration
  • Reaction to hair products

Dandruff – What to Do?

First of all, when dealing with dandruff, it’s useful to figure out the cause. Maybe, for example, if you have a poor diet and aren’t very good at staying hydrated, then you can implement some lifestyle changes. Probably drinking more water and eating more veggies will help!

Examining your environment is also important. Maybe your dandruff is caused by irritation from your current shampoo. So try swapping shampoos, or even going no poo.

You may want to start washing your hair at least every other day. And never wash it more than once a day. Also switch to natural cleaners and laundry soaps. You may find that these changes almost always make a difference!

How to Use Essential Oils for Dandruff

In addition to these lifestyle changes, you can also use essential oils for dandruff relief. Essential oils can help reduce dandruff symptoms, like itchy scalp.* Hence, we recommend the following oils:

Add to Shampoo
Add a few drops of rosemary, lemon, tea tree, and/or lavender essential oil to your shampoo. Due to the many chemicals contained in commercial shampoos, it is especially relevant to use organic or natural shampoo.

Scalp Massage
Another beneficial way to relieve dandruff is giving your scalp a massage. Place 3 to 5 drops of a combination of essential oils (rosemary, lemon, tea tree, and/or lavender) and carrier oil on your fingertips and massage your scalp.
2 drops rosemary
2 drops lavender
2 drops tea tree
2 drops lemon
½ ounce of carrier oil

No Poo Recipe
Combine
1/2 cup distilled water
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
8 drops lavender
8 drops tea tree

First of all, in a container, combine all ingredients. Shake well. While in the shower, pour some of the mixture into your palm and massage into the scalp. Then let it soak in for five minutes. Finally, rinse with water. Most of all, do not shampoo!
