Popping Advil or ibuprofen occasionally is OK, but doing so regularly could have long-term detrimental effects on your health. Alternatively, using aromatherapy for headaches and migraines is safe and natural.*

Essential Oils for Relief

These essential oils contribute to headache relief:

  • Peppermint (pain-relieving effect, relaxes muscles, relieves tension)*
  • Lavender (calming, relaxing, provides an analgesic effect)*
  • Eucalyptus (cooling and deodorizing effect)*
  • Rosewood (relieves nervous tension)*

Topical Application

A great way to use aromatherapy and essential oils for relieving headaches is to do so topically.* Be sure to dilute the essential oil blend with sweet almond or jojoba oil and massage onto forehead, neck, or temples. The essential oil scents will stay with you and help directly alleviate tension and headaches.*


Add the essential oil blend to your diffuser and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Tissue Diffusion

Place 1 – 3 drops of the essential oil blend on a tissue, paper towel, or cotton ball. Place near your nose and inhale deeply. Repeat with several breaths.

Other Methods

Inhalation being one of the most effective and soothing way to use aromatherapy, there are a few other options for using a headache-relieving essential oil blend. Steam inhalation, using a vaporizer, or even putting the essential oil into a warm bath will also help relieve symptoms and contribute to a sense of relaxation and well-being.*
